Five More Frames from Alpine

In July, my brother, David, his wife, Cheryl, Kathryn, and I visited the quaint far-west Texas town of Alpine. Last week, I posted five frames from Alpine. Here are five more.

Donde Esta?

This bronze sculpture of a riderless horse can be found on the Sul Ross University campus between the Museum of the Big Bend and the Francois Fine Arts Building. The installation is dedicated to the fallen law enforcement officers of the Big Bend area. It was sponsored by BBALEOA, the Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association. The sculpture is titled “Donde Esta?” (Where is he?). The horse is hobbled, indicating that his rider had intended to return.

Cactus

Throughout Alpine you find color everywhere, in the buildings, murals, pots, furniture, and plants. Here is a cactus on East Holland Avenue.

Coffee Anyone?

This is the coffee shop behind Front Street Books. I loved the minimalist sign and the shadows thrown by the table and chairs in the late afternoon sun.

Wagon, Wheels

I loved the orange of the wheels and the green of the wagon. This wagon is part of an exhibit inside the Museum of the Big Bend.

Cow Dog

The Cow Dog of the Cow Dog food truck. Cow Dog serves up 100% beef grilled hot dogs from the corner of Holland and 3rd in Alpine. John gives it two thumbs up.

These photos were taken with a Canon 6DII wearing the Canon 24-70 f2.8 zoom lens. They were processed from RAW files using Darktable, which is free software available for Windoze, Mac, and Linux.

  1. These are really good. I like the cup of coffee shot, the cactus pikker and the cow dog. Good stuff!
