Five Frames from Alpine

In July, my brother, David, his wife, Cheryl, Kathryn, and I visited the quaint far-west Texas town of Alpine. It was fun and many photos resulted. Here are Five Frames from Alpine.

The Desk on Hancock Hill

Behind Sul Ross University, atop Hancock Hill is a desk that was carried up in 1981 by three Sul Ross students, Jim Kitchen, Bill Wagner, and Travis Miller. According to the Sul Ross website, they were seeking a place for “contemplation and reflection”. Here is the desk one morning in July. If you visit the desk, there is a notebook you can sign. Look for our names.

Bicycle Tree

Also on Hancock Hill is the Bicycle Tree. As you can see, it is a tree with several bi- and tricycles chained to it. Here is it silhouetted against the local mountains.

Murphy Street Mercado

Murphy Street was the main street of Alpine back before 1883, when it was called Murphyville. Today Murphy street has historic buildings, restaurants, art galleries, and, of course, the Murphy Street Mercado. You have to love a place where plastic flamingos are the decoration of choice.

Shadow Flowers

A frame of hidden art in the form of Shadow Flowers that I spotted on a pot just down Murphy Street from the Mercado.

Window and Wall

Moving on down Murphy Street, here is an interesting window and wall.

The photos in this post were taken with a Canon 6DII wearing a Canon 24-70 mm f2.8 zoom. The images were produced from RAW files using Darktable, a free program available for Windoze, Mac, and Linux.
