Five Frames of Rusty

Rusty stuff has always been an attraction, photographically, for me. Here are Five Frames of Rusty.

Inclined Cylinder

This photo is of a rusty old steam locomotive at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes. The website for the retreat suggests that this is an inclined-cylinder Climax locomotive, model B. Apparently, there aren’t many of these around so it is a big deal. I just liked the rust and the interesting mechanism.

Morning at the Model B

This is another view of the Model B with the sunlight just peaking through the trees.

Lantern

Here is a rusty lantern hanging near a fence. I shot this at the Cotton Gin Village in Fredericksburg, Texas. The Cotton Gin Village is a bed and breakfast utilizing modernized “rustic” cabins in a lush setting. It is also the home of the Cabernet Grill. I have this to say about the Cabernet Grill: yum!

Mechanism

I’m guessing this is not an apple-corer. It’s cool, though. This is also from the grounds of the Cotton Gin Village.

Fordson Tractor

This is a old Fordson Model F tractor. It was mass-produced by an offshoot of the Ford Motor Company from 1917-1928. It is nicely rusted.

All of these photos were taken with a Canon 6D. The photos from the Retreat at Artesian Lakes were taken with a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens and those from Cotton Gin Village were taken with the Canon 24-70 f2.8 zoom. All of the photos were processed from RAW files using Darktable, which is free software that runs on Windoze, Mac, and Linux.

  1. I like the lantern the best but all of these pikkers could be in a brochure for tourism.
