Five Frames from Oktoberfest

Sorry, not the one in Munich. This one was held in San Angelo, Texas on September 28, 2019. It was sponsored by SoCo Taphouse and Brew Co., a local taphouse and brewpub. The name, SoCo, comes from the South Concho river.

SoCo

The SoCo sign and some of the revelers. If you are ever in the neighborhood and are interested in a brew, SoCo is located on the southeast corner of Oakes and East Concho in San Angelo, our fair city (with apologies to Click and Clack, the Tappet brothers). Note that the credit for this pictures goes to Kathryn.

Stein Hoisting Contest

Well, the day wasn’t ALL beer and bratwurst. Here is a shot of the Stein Hoisting Contest. The idea was to see who could hold their stein the longest without wavering, dipping, or drinking the whole thing. My money was on the lady on the left with a baby on her hip. However, the ultimate winner was the gentleman on the right. I noticed that they filled the steins with water this year, which is a bit of a cheat, don’t you think? The lady on the right in the yellow shirt is Girlyne White, the organizer and master of ceremonies.

Leader Board

Here is the beer menu at SoCo. I thought it was colorful so I couldn’t resist shooting. Did I have a beer, too? Well, sorta, kinda, well, yes, twice.

Beer and Beer

I loved the red tubing and the silver kegs. This is the business end of the outside beer operation. Last year SoCo moved some of the beer serving outside to thin the crowds on the inside. It worked. I’m guessing that one of the outside volunteers is not a big fan of microbrew beer. Hence the Lone Star (it is Texas, after all).

Polka Anyone?

If you weren’t interested in the beer and brats, there was music. Here is a shot of the Havlak Polka Band playing, well, a polka. Kathryn and I have been known to dance a polka for this band, but we were lugging a bunch of camera equipment and I was full of beer and sausage at the time.

There you have it – Oktoberfest San Angelo style! Y’all plan on coming on down next year. I’ll be there with a camera.
