Five Frames of Pipes from San Diego

Once again traveling for a scientific meeting, I had an opportunity to rove San Diego with my trusty DSLR in hand. What did I find? Well lots and lots of stuff. But first, here are five frames of pipes.

Big Red

Some friends took me to Liberty Station, a former Naval Training Center now a vibrant commercial and arts destination. Here is a big red pipe on a sunny day in southern California. Life is good.

Muzzled

I found this faucet with its muzzle in Liberty Station. I wonder what it did to deserve such treatment. Maybe it had been biting the passersby.

Pipes and Posts

This grouping was behind a building in Liberty Station. I liked the juxtaposition of the posts with the meters and pipes. The matching yellow walkway didn’t hurt.

Standup

This pipe was hiding in the parking garage near our hotel. It was on the quickest path to a pedestrian bridge crossing over to the baseball park, which in turn was near the Gaslamp Quarter. This pipe was in the garage practicing its standup comedy routine, “I’ve always wanted to do standup, call it a pipe dream.” Don’t forget to tip your waitresses!

Swanky Atrium with Pipe

This is inside the atrium at 325 The Legend condos on Seventh Avenue. 325 The Legend is a very swanky place. Of course, the only business I had there was photographing their pipe. I was in the neighborhood because I had breakfast at Lucky’s Lunch Counter across the street. Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t toss me out of the condos.

These photos were taken with a Canon 6DII wearing a Canon 24-70 f2.8 zoom. They were processed from RAW files using Darktable, a free program available for Windoze, Mac, and Linux.
