In the Cafe, Montreal, 2017
This is from the Second Cup Café and Cie on the corner of Stanley and Sainte-Catherine in Montreal. This fellow was having his morning coffee with a friend. He just screams “Montreal” to me. I can’t think of Montreal now without picturing this fellow in my mind.
At the Wall, San Angelo, 2017
In November 2017 The Wall that Heals, a 3/4 size replica of the Vietnam Wall, came to San Angelo for the 50th Vietnam War Commemoration. During the commemoration ceremony, Vietnam war veterans and their families were honored and pinned. I found this lady visiting the wall and caught her as she walked past the American flag flying above the parade grounds at Fort Concho.
Tough Guy, Boston, 2018
This guy was sitting outside Quincy market in Boston. I keep imagining that an associate will sidle up to him and whisper in his ear “Antony sleeps with the fishes…” or “Take the cannoli.” He is probably a retired cab driver waiting for the wife and grand kids, but he looks like a tough guy to me.
Breakfast, New Orleans, 2018
The air was brisk, the morning sun was just burning off the early fog, and this lady brought a muffin and coffee to the bench on the pier. While the lady in the front was preparing for the day or recovering from the night before, the lady in the rear of the photo was getting some exercise. She strode over to the rail, took in the view for a while, then paced off. I left the lady with the muffin to her musings and went in search of my own breakfast. A branch of the Café du Monde was just a few steps away. Beignets awaited!
Café Society, Galveston, 2016
Here are a couple of Joes sitting in a brewery having some beers on a foggy afternoon. “Café Society” is a term that referred to the beautiful people who populated fancy cafes in New York, Paris, and London starting in the late nineteenth century. This photo was taken in the Beerfoot Brewery near the seawall in Galveston where I, like the two gentlemen pictured, was having a nice beer and enjoying the cool, foggy afternoon and the sound of the ocean. What could I call this picture but “Café Society”?
Most of these photos were produced with a Canon 6D wearing a Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. The last photo, Café Society, was made with my cell phone. All images were processed with Darktable, a free and open-source program available for Windoze, Mac OS, and Linux.
Once again, great stuff!
