Five Frames from Fredricksburg

Kathryn and I often go to Fredricksburg for short getaways.

Cotton Gin

When we are in Fredricksburg, we often stay at the Cotton Gin Village. The Cotton Gin Village is a bed and breakfast that consists of log cabins (with modern amenities) surrounding a central garden and koi pond. It is like being in another world. Here is a shot of the grounds.

In the Cotton Gin Village is the Cabernet Grill-Texas Wine Country Restaurant. The food and wine are excellent. Kathryn and I give it two thumbs up.

Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock is a pink granite mountain in the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. It rises approximately 425 above the surrounding area. The summit is 1825 feet above sea level. The hike up is steep in places, but manageable by most. Go early to avoid the crowds and the heat.

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park has a nature trail and a bird-viewing area. We often drop by the bird blind and snap a few photos of the assorted feeder-birds. Here is a shot of a hummingbird.

Pioneer Museum

The Pioneer Museum has four acres of buildings and displays. The shot above is from one of the buildings set up to show how one might have lived in the early days of Fredricksburg.

Japanese Garden of Peace

In the center of land-locked Fredricksburg is the National Museum of the Pacific War. The connection is Admiral Chester Nimitz, Sr., who was the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet during World War II. Admiral Nimitz was born in Fredricksburg on February 24, 1885.

The Japanese Garden of Peace is a part of the museum. It is a gift of the people of Japan in honor of Admiral Nimitz.

See slightly larger views of these photos in the Five Frames Gallery until they cycle out. These photos were taken with a Canon 6D with various lenses. The photos were processed from RAW files with Darktable, a free program available for Windoze, Mac, and Linux.
