Five Frames of Street Photography from New Orleans

I made these street shots in New Orleans over a two day period in March, 2018.

Drummer

You cannot walk around the French Quarter without encountering music. This combo was playing at an open air cafe venue. The drummer makes a striking silhouette. Leave a little tip before you split.

Combo

I found this pair making music for the patrons in line for the Café Du Monde. Request “When the Saints Go Marching In” and throw a buck in the box.

Street Artist

Street art is a must see in Jackson Square. This artist set up shop on Royal at the intersection with Pirate Alley. That is St. Anthony’s Garden at the back of the St. Louis Cathedral behind the artist. The garden was a popular dueling spot in the 18th century. I wonder if the artist is going to paint in a pair of duelists. You think not? No matter, I would love to see the finished painting.

Cyclist

This fellow came whizzing down Royal. He gave me a chance at a single shot. He looks like he is late for a very important date.

Pirate Alley

The paving in the alley caught my eye and I set up to shoot. I captured these three instead. That lamp post in the middle distance is famous. It resides at the corner of Pirate Alley and Cabildo Alley and has appeared in many photos and paintings.

All of these photos were taken with a Canon 6D with 50mm f1.8. I was traveling light as I do on many of my trips. I process the photos with Darktable, which is free and open source software (FOSS).
